Hadden Fellows

Internships are sponsored by the Institute in honor of our founder Mrs. Maude Miner Hadden.

In 1924, Maude Miner and Alexander Hadden founded the Institute of World Affairs in Geneva, Switzerland.  The Haddens' aim was straightforward:  to promote international peace and understanding through education, training, and communication.  Education through disciplined study and discussion; training through bridging the theoretical with the practical; and communication through assembling people of diverse national, cultural, and religious backgrounds.  Maude Hadden wrote in her memoirs that if "...we would work as hard for people as we would work for victory if war descended upon us, peace would be within our grasp.  Let us dedicate ourselves anew to the task of seeking freedom for all mankind--and to develop more leaders who will help usher in the day of brotherhood and peace for the world."

In the pursuit of Ms. Hadden's vision, Hadden Fellowships were established to provide students with the opportunity to work hands-on with the Institute to gain the skills and understanding in the areas of conflict resolution and international relations.
