The Institute of World Affairs began its existence as the Students' International Union, created in 1924 at the Fifth Assembly of the League of Nations. Since then, the Institute has gone through many changes. One thing, however, has remained constant: our dedication to fostering greater international understanding for a more peaceful world. This vision has taken us into classrooms around the world and led us to establish regional centers in numerous divided societies in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. None of this would be possible without the dedicated support of a wide network of individuals. Our Washington, DC, headquarters are kept running by a core of dedicated staff and student interns, while our associates in the field bring our projects to life. It is with their support, and the guiding direction of the IWA Board of Directors, that we are able to realize our vision.
