Capability Statement

Experience and Expertise

  • For over 80 years, the Institute of World Affairs (IWA) has been a leading voice in international relations research, instruction and applied programming.

  • The Institute’s Advisory Committee and Senior Associates include well-known figures such as Tom Brokaw and Dr. Henry Kissinger as well as area experts such as Dr. George Irani (Lebanon), Mr. Michael Doherty (Northern Ireland), and Dr. David Ratnavale (South and East Asia). These individuals provide advice and counsel to the Institute as well as in-country project assistance.

  • IWA personnel, such as Dr. Hrach Gregorian, regularly recruit subject matter experts (SME’s) or provide direct consulting services to government agencies, INGOs and multilateral organizations.

On the Ground & Around the World

  • The Institute has in-country NGO partners in East Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

  • Institute staff and associates are currently working in Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Ethiopia and West Africa.

  • Through a network of humanitarian assistance, development and peace operations NGOs, the Institute has the capacity to gain access to countries and regions throughout the world, particularly at the grassroots level.

Network of Experts

  • Scholars, researchers, academics, NGO and PVO personnel, military officials and political leaders are among the communities IWA draws on for deep cultural and socio-political analysis of a range of issues in current international relations, ranging from terrorism to “joined up” approaches to post-conflict peace-building in such theaters as Afghanistan and Iraq.

  • The Institute has long experience collaborating with academic institutions and faculties across a multitude of disciplines in the United States and abroad. Through joint research and training projects, IWA has developed personal and professional relationships with leading academic experts in the US, Canada, Africa and East Asia. These experts possess the linguistic and cultural background as well as grounding in the social sciences, physical sciences, arts and the humanities to produce high value intellectual capital.

Mining Knowledge & Training Practitioners

  • IWA personnel and associates have produced state-of-the-art training modules for distributed education programs offered by such customers such as the Joint Forces Command, the Inter-American Defense College, and US Army TRADOC.
